Doesn’t make sense right? How can a word be accused of any crime? But, if freedom is just a word, it’s a made up one, with no bearing or meaning. Maybe it was used in books. If it was, those books should be considered science fiction as no such thing exists.
If it’s something to aspire for, to dream about then it must have some consistence, it must be made of something. And I know that people aspire to be free, dream about it, fight for it and even die for it. So it must exist.
If it exists what does it consists of? It’s not a question of rights or rulings. Those are human inventions, and even bad ones at that. Law is not the same as justice and liberties are not the same as equality. Freedom is not justice and/or equality.
It’s not a matter of consciousness. Although even sociopaths and psychopaths know the difference between right and wrong they are “programmed” to only respond to their own desires, no matter whose freedom they remove in the process. Freedom is not being able to do whatever you want, whatever you can think of. That’s chaos.
Our freedom ends where other’s begins. So it’s not property. It’s not material and can’t be owned, traded or even offered. When you do think you are trading freedom what you are really doing is trading your own integrity and/or soul. Case and point, trading certain liberties for some false sense of security (Patriot Act is a great example of this). The cost for that “security” is our own integrity as a sentient being. We know that it does not protect us in the least and yet we let it happen over some “better safe than sorry” kind of excuse.
Freedom is the sum of all our dreams. Some of us have given up on dreaming. So we should all be accused of crimes of high treason against humanity and we should be punished… and I believe we will be very soon. The ones that stopped dreaming and all the others that let them die without dreams. We are one. And if one fails, we all fail.
